DO NOT DO WHAT IS ALREADY DONE

Building at University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
What a great saying:  'Do not do what is already done.'   That is what we try to do at our shops in Carver, Minnesota.  Create the unusual!   Make it feel new and exciting each month when we open for our occasional sales.  Make it so our customers want to come back month after month to check out all our great finds.  Thank you to everyone that came to our February sale -- it was awesome!  I'm sure that Spring will be in full swing at our March sales.

Is Spring around the corner?!?  We are all hoping so -- and soon.  Today in Minnesota the snow just keeps on falling -- somewhere around 15 inches since yesterday morning.  More and more snow.

I was talking to my sister, Barb, and she asked me what my "resolution" was for 2011.  I told her the usual.  Of course, I had to ask her the same question.  She said that instead of focusing on 'less of' something for the new year, she was going to focus on 'more'.  Better to focus on the positive than the negative.  Cup 1/2 full instead of 1/2 empty.

Each year brings new resolutions, giving up and changing old habits.  What a great idea!  Here are a few items for her 'more' list:

Eat more (vegetables), drink more (water), laugh more, live more, enjoy more; think more, forgive more, give more, read more, play more, walk more, move more, give in more, compliment more, listen more.
'MORE HUGS'!  (These are my two grandchildren in 2007.  Jasmyn and Damian.)
Here are some more pictures that we long to see again real soon in Minnesota:
BEAUTIFUL Ramsey Falls in Redwood Falls, MN
Robins nests with those beautiful colored eggs!
Pam and Jane finding more treasures!

Barb listening more!
Ki and Jane packing the truck with our treasures from Sisters' Garden and Bloom in Kalona, Iowa.
See what we have to look forward to!  Enjoy!  Sara

Paper --- It seems to be my obsession!!

Here are a few of the items that I have put together using old books.  Hope you enjoy them!
Sets of three coverless books tied together for shelf sitters.
Necklaces made from dictionary pages and old glass lenses.  I also made the necklace (on the top right side of my blog page) using paper shreds and a typewriter key.
3-D.  I used an exacto knife on this old book to cut around these people and stand them up.
Start shredding the old pages.  Shreds work great in bowls for filler.  Love these vintage cash register numbers.  Use paper shreds in your Easter basket this April; use when mailing a package instead of styrofoam peanuts!  Recycle, recycle, recycle.
I've made Christmas ornaments, garland, paper cones filled with candy canes.

Made this necklace for my mom - she loves to do crossword puzzles every morning!
These are all the covers from the Readers Digest condensed books.
Last year, Bachmans needed an end table for their Idea House.  My husband helped me put this together.  We used a wood base and a bunch of coverless Readers Digest condensed books.  Doesn't it look great?  Always trying to think outside the box!  Just add a piece of glass to the top -- one of a kind.
Top view of the end table.
THANKS FOR STOPPING BY MY BLOG TO SEE WHAT I HAVE BEEN CREATING!
If you enjoyed it, please feel free to follow me!
